I really love the concept behind this, it shows how the character matured over the time and events.
From a past of sorrow into.. perhaps a bright future? I think his gaze says it all, he looks more mature and resolute, yet he still keeps the side that dragged him behind.
It's our past and events that shape us and makes us grow.
Your painting strokes are also lovely on it.
