I recently found some pictures of amazing scratchboard illustration on the internet and felt inspired to try it out, myself. This is my first attempt at scratchboard ever, and I'm so in love with this medium.
Drawing is based on a photograph taken by my boyfriend of a wolf at the local zoo and used with permission.
14"x11" Ampersand scratchboard.

i <3 scratchboard soooooooo much! it is a rather hypnotic medium and trying to emulate the effects in photoshop just isn't the same. scratchboard is what i use to judge if an art store is good or not, it bothers me that so many don't carry it. this is exceptionally beautiful work by the way.
I have been looking for a new medium for awhile and to be honest...I really love just black and white (maybe cuz I'm lazy and I don't wanna worry about color theory XD) but now that I saw this, I really wanna try it out...maybe incorporate in into my show this fall...
thanks so much for sharing it ^^

I've done scratchboard before, and mine looks great, but mine have never looked realistic like this. I did one with several shots of wolves, kind of like a collage, and they look great, but they lack the realistic spark that yours has. Maybe it's the twinkle in the eyes, or the soft glow of the fur?
In any case, your scratch arts are amazing!

Instant desktop background right here, girl. :D
And in this instant, you have made me extremely interested in trying out this scratchboard medium. I know my younger sister has done some things with the same main idea (though I think it had a template or something) but besides that... I haven't had much personal experience. My mom (someone who's very interested in the arts) hasn't heard of it either!
Anyways, enough about that xD
Great piece of artwork here (I checked out your website. All of your art is great!). Even though it's referencing a photo, dang, it must take skill to figure out where to put lines (or if you want to get technical, scratch them away) and where to darken things and be lighter and where to accent things and etc. etc...
Amazing.
