NOT MY ART: Naya plushie!
// THIS IS NOT MY ART //
This is a custom plushie of my dragoness character Naya, created by the artists of Bast's Garden (http://www.bastsgarden.com/).
I commissioned this at a renaissance festival back in 2005... sheesh, that long ago!? And recently realised that somehow I'd never uploaded a photo of her here. So I decided I should fix that! Here she is.
Her body is polar fleece, and her wings are black velvet on the underside and scaleprint black pleather on the top. She isn't the most squidgy of plushies, instead having wire making up her wings and spine so she's fully poseable; the tail can be curled around one's neck to perch on a shoulder or hang from a curtain rod or whatnot. Lately she hangs out on the headboard of my bed.
Obviously given what a special character Naya is to me, having a plush of her is a pretty special thing too. I'm really delighted with how she came out; Bast's Garden do really great work with all sorts of adorable plushies and other crafts, including custom work like Naya here. If you frequent renaissance festivals in the US it's very possible you may have encountered their work at some point.

I've never attempted myself, but I imagine it's tricky to get right... especially the face and whatnot, there are probably pretty subtle things that make the difference between looking cute and like a believable character, and looking kind of off and creepy, like if one eye is a bit lopsided or something. :) Best of luck!
