All settled in now.
Remind me again why I thought it was a good idea to sign up for this?
Oh yeah, I remember now; some dumb bunny tripped me out of my cushy gig as pawpsicle hustler and into a life of hard earned, low pay.
If I live through this, remind me to bite her head off for real this time.
Instructor Urso says 'hi!' btw, and so does everyone else. See the picture I attached.
Gonna get some shut-eye before I start getting all emotional and bunny-like.
Nightynights carrots!
Was originally meant to be more along the lines of barracks shenanigans, but turned into a more ... I guess sweetish personal piece? Ah well ... something I treated myself to doing after a very annoying day at work ~
Will answer comments tomorrow or friday. For now, Imma do like Nick and catch some shut-eye myself.

Heh, pretty sure he did, if not more so. Regardless of Judy's success, Nick was probably also one of the smallest applicants by a good margin, even if maybe other animals gave the job a shot. However, remember that foxes are apparently reagrded as shifty and untrustworthy, so even if they accepted him in (likely backed by Judy), they probably didn't really expect anything good to come from a fox joining the ZPD ... bet you he graduated top of his class too though ;3
Ahh, but they don't understand that his crafty ways and sticky fingers can now be used for good! Or morally grey snooping and the like.
Still! Going to be an interesting learning curve for him, and maybe a few instances of Judy having to stop him from doing something morally and technically illegal while on and off the job due to his crafty ways. Like, pick-pocketing the person they're questioning to see if his name matches up to the one in his wallet, or something.
So many ideas, so little time. XP

Still better than the way they treated Judy. Which I'll bet he's been informed of.
Nick: "Really? You mean it could be worse?"
Nobody said being the ZPD's first fox would be easy. *nudges Nick* But it's still your best bet at being Judy's first fox too, if you know what I mean.

XD Pretty sure he got the exact same treatment further into training. Wouldn't be right otherwise.
As for that last point; Judy strikes me as the kind of driven person who's been so focused on her goals she hasn't bothered to waste time on anything besides becoming an expert of the law and its enforcement, so if it does happen, I think Nick will be her first, period.

Oh definitely not. But she is the kind of person who thinks of her co-workers as family and probably won't even realize one of them is her "husband" as opposed to her stern dad (Bogo) or lovable gay uncle (Clawhauser) until they start looking at one-bedrooms together.
And now that Nick is riding shotgun with her, he's got first dibs.

Either that or the grandmother. The one who always pinches Judy's cheeks (figuratively) and is always raving about how wonderful she is (literally) because of how proud she was to have molded a cute little bunny into the ZPD's toughest cop ("Have I shown you the video of Hopps boxing the rhino? Here, gather round, I've got it on my phone"), and one of the few mammals on the planet who can make Bogo nervous since she's the closest thing to a mother he has (Urso: "Don't be so harsh to the rookies Bogo. On your first day at the Academy-" Bogo: *buries his face into his hooves* "Oh God, not the ice wall story again.").
This one is much better than the previous zootopia fanart submission, really nice idea, you fill up the gaps in the story nicely! It really explores the never seen scenes that oathed to happen. Also "and into a life of hard earned, low pay. ".. I´ll never understand how he could leave his 200dollar a day hustlejob. :D
Heh, we all have our preferences ;3
I do love expanding universes though (if you were around, remember back to my KFP fanarts back in 2010/2011) and Zoot just offers SO much opportunity.
As for Nick's decision to join up; I'm not gonna compare myself entirely, but I understand his choice on a personal level. While good pay is all nice and dandy, you want to have the feeling what you get up to do every morning has some kind of sense and purpose.

I know this comment is old, but here's my two cents
Nick always wanted to be part of a team and to help others, but that idealistic part of him from his childhood was beaten down when he tried to do that by joining the scouts and he figured that there was no point in being anything more than what people expected of him; not out of enjoyment, but because it was all society would let him be. Then in comes this bunny who managed to supercede what everyone thinks she's supposed to be and also fully believes in him and sees him as more than some shifty lowlife, but instead as a good person worthy of friendship and a badge. He's finally been convinced of his worth and has a job that finally lets him fulfil that childhood dream and be who he really is instead of what society thought he was.

XD not to brag, but I'd like to think most of my artwork lives off expressions and character interactions. It's learning to apply it to the toony Zoot style that's giving me the most trouble ... especially Nick >.<
I really, really, really want to see Nick's training days though. bet they were funny aswell X3

You've made another great picture. I like it. :)

Now I wonder what if Nick decided not to join police force, but would meet Judy regularly?

Well she could respond just like they did in Starship Troopers, with someone saying "DAMN Nickie You dont deserve THAT!"
And then Judy goes "Hey Nick I see your having fun at the academy, they should of made you the valedictorian by now if not, tell them to talk to me"
Or it could be one of those "Just for you" responses but all of Nicks squad mates gather round

I know this lovely piece is old, but since I couldn't see anyone saying it, I figure I'd put in my two cents as to why Nick joined the force.
