My quest from 2000 to present. I wonder how many people will recognize some of the older art.

Well yeah, the rest one is really exactly the same style.
But actually since 2003 there has been a similarity. (That orange dragon for example looks close to his style too.)
Not that thats a bad thing or anything. Lots of artists styles resemble eachother. (I think Moonstalker and Cougr have very similar styles too for example.)
There is only so many ways to draw something and have it look good. ;)

I got to rethink my entire outlook on art. I started really enjoying the process even more than the result. The main things i got from animation were probably Shape of pose, anatomy, weight, movement, gesture and color theory. I also got to learn about the psychology of design and how to put a personality or mood into a piece, and make it so that everyone can see it :)
I think that last I can do, and I'm pretty good with poses and anatomy, though not great through lack of practice...
...I'm trying to think how to phrase it...
How did you pick up your skills in shading and depth? I draw like I only have one eye when I do my art/scribbles... they're painfully flat and once done, I can't even see where to put shades to try for depth. The one time I tried I had to destroy the picture from damage, erasing, and sheer frustration at how badly it was coming along.
I think I ate the pencil, too...

I learned it through life drawing, though I've been using shading since the 4th grade (I was really good at portraiture).
The issue I think you have is that you're thinking of the drawing as being flat. You've got to see the picture in three dimensions and then project light onto it. Even a flat color shadow will give amazing depth if you project it accurately.
One thing that isn't really visible in my drawing progression is the fact that I learned to draw in full three dimensions. So although some of my earlier works look pretty good, the posing options were limited.

lol, I get that sometimes. The reference image was drawn by an artist that draws like ferris. Since that's how the character was drawn I decided to stick with the style for that image.
It is however my own art, pose and design. If you want to see my ferris based art check my VCL gallery, he was a big influence early on and remains one of my fav artists. Oh and as for the pic on VCL that is essentially a direct copy of one of Ferris' he gave me permission to post it. It was also done from memory :)
