Clown Fungus is, on its own, relatively harmless. It will grow into brightly colored patches which may or may not resemble
certain carnival figures, feeding off decay and rot. It's not until the spores are breathed in that things go sour. The spores
secrete a hallucinogen that takes the victim on a magical journey full of bright lights and entertaining sounds, producing a
euphoric high that can be highly addictive.
Victims of the hallucinogenic toxin tend to wander off to find some sort of “fun” which they believe is often found in dark,
damp sewers or old, abandoned buildings. These locations also tend to be the habitat of the same fungus, and if the victim
is allowed to continue to breathe in spores and damp, they will eventually succumb to the toxins, believing they’re having
the most fun they’ve ever had in their now severely shortened lives. They will choke on the fungal carpet and fruiting
bodies growing in their throats and lungs, the infection spreading to their face in the final stages, often in the shape of
bright, neon spots and itchy, red, painted on smile.
Fungi allowed to grow for extended periods of time will develop into a thick carpet of fuzz that tends to take the shape
of brightly colored faces. Neon red fruiting bodies will root themselves to whatever surface they can within this fungal carpet
and grow out into fist-sized swollen lumps of bioluminescent, infectious fluid. Supposedly these lumps can be heard honking
or giggling faintly, though this is usually chalked up to the spores and their hallucinogenic effects. Once a infestation gets to
this stage, it is often best to simply torch the building rather than inhaling the spores and ending up at the wheel of yet
another nightmarish clown car of pain.
