That's a nice fan! Looks to be from the 1940's, but I doubt how safe those open metal fan blades are!

Yeah it is one of those 1930's "take your finger clean off!" models. Many of them had safety screens but I've seen some that don't. The amazing thing is that the Soviets used an unshielded fan like this all the way into the 1980's for crew coolant in armored vehicles and helicopters. What is even more disturbing is that they often give the driver one by putting it between his legs blowing up into his face! Um, just what I when I'm bouncing around the countryside is whirling unshielded blades down there!

Holding screws (with those sharp-edged spirals) in a spot like that? Owuch!

Yeah it might get a bit dicey taking them back out.
