Based on Star Trek, by Gene Roddenberry
Star Trek is the property of Paramount Studios
This is a work of speculative fiction (in the format of a short show pitch) on how the TNG/DS9/VOY timeline could be developed into the future while remaining relevant to a world where almost four and three decades respectively have passed since TNG and DS9 first aired. A future where the Federtion just got larger, and larger, and larger…
This was largely inspired by Trekspertise's video The Trek not Taken, where he looks at the various failed pitches to launch new Trek based TV shows.

In particular by the description of Star Trek Federation, about a much older and rather broken Federation. That sounded like a great idea, so I wrote a few pages on the subject. Turns out I 'broke' the Federation in precisely the opposite way that Federation did, so... Star Trek Empire.

I found it rather interesting and not too unrealistic. Events can steer a nation into a reaction they don't want to go.
I've also wondered why the Romulans don't join the Federation to take it over. While they would have the largest part of the population, there is a prohibitive reason not to do that. Their planets woul effectively become independant. With their fleet being merged/absorbed into Starfleet, they won't be able to control their people anymore. With true free elections it's difficult to say were the population would go. Faced with the freedoms, choice andsecurity, it's possible that the romulan people assert their freedoms and might want to keep them.
BTW, thank you for making the galaxy larger than they do it in the TV shows/Movies. Sometimes I have the feeling that the galaxy is a small place as they hop from one place to the other. Even with your 600.000 member Federation, the Borgs data about the people they found, there are still unexplored parts of the galaxy.
About the size of the universe. The nearest galaxy is closer to earth than the distance of earth to the center of the Millky Way Galaxy. Inside our galaxy it might be just a cluster, but we are still talking about 10.000 suns. So there is a lot left to explore before we make the jump to the Andromeda galaxy. Going by your description.
Again, I liked your pitch.
P.S. I still think Andromeda was what Rhodenberry wanted to do with Star Trek. The similarities ae just too many and Andromeda is made from his notes. Now that could have made for an interesting 'reboot'.
