After the bomb, society will shatter and new societies will rise from the barbarity using pieces of the past. A Canticle for Leibowitz, follows vignettes of the aftermath, as the brave seek to preserve scraps of knowledge for future generations. It is hope in a landscape of brutality and often is tragic in its victories. One such victory was the preservation of a circuit diagram by a monastic order as an illuminated diagram. This follows early medieval practices of illuminating manuscripts to preserve ancient texts.
