This is a backstory in my series, "Cruising on Whittier Boulevard". It takes place perhaps several months, at most a couple of years before the present setting of the series. Of course, in terms of narrative, it's part of the story in that it's a flashback.

I'm thinking of this as being the first half of the flashback, with the second half to be worked on this week.
