Oh my. That is an awesome hyena, and this is a really dramatic pic. I love the contrast of the hard ink contours with the splotchy fur pattern all on top of the sort of wild kicked up dust background that enhances the composition so much. Excellent work!

Maybe it's just me, but everyone is saying 'hyena' and my brain read it as 'Cape dog'.

Damned fine job on the pose. Tight, semi-closed but still very energetic. The forced perspective works very well also. Face is magnificent and I really like the eyes.

I think while the 'monochromatic brown' look is definitely an interesting style that a bit of pure-blue African sky rising out of the dust might not have been amiss here...Particularly since some of your shadows seem to be blue-brown (at least on my monitor).
