Many have a preset definition of what an Artist is and isn't. Their's doesn't quite fit. Something about the moment you make a line you're not... I don't get it but...
I tell mundanes I'm a Traditional Freelance Illustrator, Multi-media Animator, and Colorist. I tell Furries I'm a Pencil Furry Artist or a Furry Illustrator and Animator.
Also at cons I have a sign that reads "Spooge protection! I laminate smut!"
Easier to do that and avoid the conflicts.
