“What was in it for you Lapino.” Reynardo snarled as he struggled against the ropes. “Money? Power? Not having to pay off your bar tab?”
Lapino chuckled. “ All that and more.” He grabbed the rope noose around Reynardo’s neck, yanking him uncomfortably upwards. “See, they promised me something much more valuable.” He bore his face closer to the fox’s.
“Reynardo the corsair, Reynardo the adventurer, Reynardo the hero.” He spat out that last one. “The mere sight of you made me ill, a sanctimonious do-gooder always going around spouting on how he’s going to save the day.” He continued, pressing his face close against Reynardo’s own, the intensity of his glare made Reynardo flinch.
“Well Guess what, Hero? They’re going to let me break you.”
