way cool concept and great palette. You could benefit by using more contrasting values, though. All the colors have a very similar shade to them. Pretty Decent use of perspective and form in the stacked trunks, maybe drawing in a horizon line and some perspective guides would help. The attitude in the character is great, he looks almost friendly, in a creepifyin' sorta way.

I think the design of the character is intriguing and rather heartwarming as well. He looks strange and alien and yet he seems very familiar somehow. The friendly-looking dog is a really nice touch.

Velella velella or by the wind sailors. They occasionally wash up on the shore in huge drifts. I guess if you were going to catch and eat jellyfish, they wouldn't be the best choice of things to eat, but they're pretty iconic, and I was just drawing without thinking too hard.

At least 40. Probably should be a little more hunched and wrinkled to really be old though.

The hands in particular read as old and gnarled.
