Hi everyone my name is Blink, and I will be talking about how I became a furry and how I found out about the furry fandom.
First I need to go back a few years. A few years ago I didn't know much about what a furry was, the only thing that I knew at the time was, the stigmas and that the internet hated them, and I never did any research on it.
Then in late 2015, through YouTube, the topic of furries came up again, with Zootopia. I remembered hearing about furries years ago and finally decided to do some research on them. Previously I briefly knew about furries fursuiting and the only image i saw of a fursuit before this was of a poorly made cardboard suit that i'm pretty sure someone made just as a joke. But through my research i saw some amazing fursuits that I thought were totally awesome. This made me want to do more research, so after a few days i found some furry YouTubers, such as majira strawberry, vix n dwnq, and pocari roo. These furries helped educate me about the furry fandom, and taught me the truth about the stigmas.
So on January 1st 2016, i finally declared myself a furry. Then a while after I joined FA and learned about the art side of the fandom. I still continue till this day to do more research on this fandom, and manly right now i'm trying to find out why some people hate furries so much, but that's a different topic for a different time.
To summarize, when the trailers for Zootopia came out it got me interested in furries, next through youtube I learned the most about the fandom, and I declared myself a furry on the first day of 2016.
I am still very new to this fandom, and I still have lots to learn. But I thought it would be fun if i shared my furry story with you guys. I hope you enjoyed.

XD I think that Zootopia made the furry community grow a lot XD I myself found about my furry side only this year and I , just like you , joined FA only a month (or a bit more XD ) ago ... even if I joined because I read some amazing comics from the italian artist Husky92 XD then I joined FA and ( I didn't knew at the beginning ) I found out about the writer side of the fandom and I saw many photographers too so I started to post some of my poems and photos XD
My perception of the fandom started with the negative stigmas as well, mainly from friends and internet memes. I recently met a streamer on twitch that was drawing some furry art who pushed me into making a fur affinity account and exploring the community a bit. After exploring FA for a little while i found that the community was much more friendly and inclusive than most other internet communities. I also found out that many of the top occupations for furries were IT and sciences, and being a nerdy kind of guy, i thought that i could meet some people who had similar interests to me. Also the operation of the community and it's content is what i like most about the fandom, the community is self-run and quality content is produced from people who are not out to make a quick buck.
I personally haven't 'come out' to my parents nor friends about my interests in the fandom. But then again, i only joined earlier this year :P

Well it's great to see another member of the fandom, and if you do plan on coming out to anyone let me give a little recommendation. Im from Alberta Canada and almost everyone here ether doesn't know what a furry is or knows about the stigmas. But say for example, Vancouver Canada, because of the furry con many people know the truth about furries. So depending where you live it may determine what you may have to say when "coming out". I would recommend researching where some of the stigmas came from, and to be ready to respond to most of their questions.
I've read on your artist profile that you don't know what you are doing ...
Don't worry ! =)
At the beginning I was merely a watcher ... but after a while I posted some photos and poems and they were apreciated ... and now I'm an active poet ... and I post almost daily photos or poems ( though my poems are always posted with a photo related to it XD ) ...
So for now enjoy the community and maybe one day you'll feel in the mood to post too ... just don't fret
