Albedo started as an anthology book with several stories, the first issue having a silly short by Marc Schirmeister and Stan Sakai's Nilson Groundthumper as well as my Erma Felna EDF.

aw.. flashes me back to when I used to (in the 90's) bike to the store to buy furry comics and go sit under a tree a the park to read. back when it was still a sci-fi thing mostly and just had a different feel to me

i think i first saw the comics around issue 5 or 6...hunted for back issues - found issue 3 and 4, the reprint of issue 0, and Command Review to fill in the gaps (and also because the covers were amazing!)

i don't remember if i had this one or not. i think i probably did. i had issue zero though. i remember buying that off of you at a con.
the westercon that was in portland rather then seattle, 84 i think it was. i remember the ones that were half erma and half usaghi.

Portland was also the time of the infamous "50 Short Years of Harlan Ellison" T-shirt. I made a silly fun T-shirt as Ellison was the GoH and it didn't go well. And, yes, it was the release of nr2

i remember that part of it too. 'short jokes' were the big dumb thing that year, and being about the same height as i am, he was understandably sick of it.
they didn't bother me as much as they did him, but by then i kind of thought they were getting a bit stale too.

Hmm, my copy is a bit darker than this picture, but the image looks the same. Do I have a copy from a later printing?

Actually, on closer inspection mine has more white showing in the hair between the brown and the black line.

If the background is a more orange color, along with the little bit of white showing, then yes, that is the later cover.

I bought this of someone's table at the 1984 Worldcon in Anaheim. Might've been you personally, Mr. Steve, I don't recall...

That was The Time, wasn't it? The mid-to-late 80s. You, Stan Sakai, Reed Waller, Vicky Wyman, Josh Quagmire, Jim Groat...Everyone finding their audience and their little niche in the wake of the Turtles. Fascinating to have followed this all, watching it grow from that first big burst of talent, through the comics and conventions, to the internet, to what it is today. Makes me feel proud. Old, but proud.

Not in the wake, actually. Richard Lester (Quagmire) and his Cutie Bunny predates Albedo and TMNT (and he'd been doing non-furry stuff before), which came out at the same time. Waller and Wyman had been doing fan stuff for years before as well. I'd say, for most of the furry genre, what TMNT did was make small/alternate press visible to the larger comic market.

Have this rated and grated and screened up at a 9.7. This issue 8 and volume 2's 10 are my favorite covers.

I have a copy stored away in the attic somewhere, probably the more orangey second run. I know I bought it at Ziesing Brother's Book Emporium in Willimantic, CT back when it was just out. I remember thinking a buck-and-a-half was a lot of money for a funny-animal comic, but boy, was I wrong.

I need to check if its this one i have, or a later print. the main one i need is v1 #2 and my v1 is complete.
