So, what happens when you give Chip a straightforward, rock chord progression, and a straightforward rock structure?
This song.
I'm reading Rikky Rooksby's The Song Writing Sourcebook for ideas on how to write more, uhmm, normal music. He gives a nice example of a straightforward, four-chord song on page 63.
When I listen to the chords, I didn't like them until I drop them two octaves and put them into an echo-y room. Add more atmospherics than an Ed Wood film, add more and more bass, and occasionally throw in melodies in a range that don't cause earthworms to shake from the ground.
Enjoy!

*grin* If you listen to music, you know it -- even if you don't know the terms.
Most rock songs have a chorus (played several times, same words) and verses (same melody, different words.) I followed that structure.
Chords are when two or more notes are played at the same time. In most pop music, there's underlying chords playing beneath the melody. The progression was just a set of chords that the book I'm reading suggested for a rock song.
I like this song better.

OK, I think that I know what that rock structure is; it has to do with do a little bit of the song, and then move on to that part that repeats oh so often, and then back to the story, and then onto the repeating part again.
And I guess that I already knew what a chord is, but I wasn't really sure what a rock chord would be.
