I found the concept a 'furries' wearing fursuits in the movie a fandom nod hilarity.

It literally was the first thing I thought off when I saw that and the whole "He wants to grow up to be an elephant", because in a way, that's sorta the point of many fursuiters. To be the inner, whatever animal costume they're wearing.

You sir should write the sequel or episodes for the series. Just have to find a subject(s) for the tension for the plot elements.

I think this is one issue they did not finalize.

Originally the predators or omnivores ate insect, plant, and fish protein. Then close to the movie's release it seems they backtracked and changed it to just insect and plant. Pre-release books mention tuna and such for food. Then after the movie came out the directors decided that they do in fact eat fish.

I don't think they ever finalized non-mammals. Gazelle's song does mention birds though. While I don't think they said anything definitive, if a city of millions like Zootopia doesn't have any citizens other than mammals either only mammals evolved to that point or it's a hyper-segregated world.
