Chippie, my model rocketry course director asked me to come up with a "patch" for this Summer's class rather early this year as it's not until late July. She wants the insignia to use for a presentation to be given at the wing conference next weekend in Traverse City, MI. It took me a few hours to come up with this much.
Rocket stands before a stand of pines, representing Alpena Combat Readiness Training Center. The model he holds is a replica Mercury Redstone, representing the historic missions which happened 55 years ago. The MR-8/Liberty Bell 7 flight occurred 21 July 1961--only one day past my birthday.
Redstone also names the first stage of the Civil Air Patrol Model Rocketry Program.
Rocket is also the course mascot. So CRTC means "Camp Rocket T. Coyote" during his week on the base.
