Im not entirely sure why im uploading this, other than im just experimenting with trying to draw furry critters, not to mention working out my own method of coloring.
Things i did Differently:
1 - Up to this point, ive only done two methods of cleaning my line work.
The first, i could change the contrast ratio untill the lines where solid black, which would produce jaggies, but would make coloring extremely easy as i could select within the body.
The second, i would leave the lines with their blended edges, change that blend to a transparent gradient, and change the layer to "multiply" so that the blend worked with whatever color was underneath it. The problem with this method is that i have to hand paint the colors, which is time consuming and can cause errors.
What i did in this picture, i first used the contrast to make the lines solid. Then i colored the base color. And finally went back to the layer with the linework, and blurred it. This removes the jaggies for the most part, and keeps the picture looking soft. The only problem with this is that it gradually makes the lines thicker which might be a problem for my already thick method of doing linework. But it works for this leg.
2 - The second thing i did different was that i went back to doing a layer of soft shading. Rather than just jumping to the celshading like ive been doing lately, i put down a very grdual shade underneath which gives the leg more tone and shape.
3 - I altered the flow of my brush. This gives the outward edge of the brush used for shading a bit more of a gradiant or transparent look. Added to that that when i go over similar areas, it adds more color as it starts out partialy opaque. This gave it more of a fur look, rather than just a smooth look. This required meany quick brush strokes instead of just one long and carefull one.
Originally, i first started this because i wanted to see if i could duplicate the fur done by
ruaidri and failing horribly at it. I dont think my style of linework/coloring really fits that style of fur..... but i really need to work on my fur/hair/feathers.
Any tips, pointers, crit, would be greatly apreciated. The anatomy of this picture was done quickly and half assed, as it was mostly an experiment on color. Also, if anyone has any links to good online art tutorials i would greatly apreciate them.
