Starswirl the Bearded and Clover the Clever were both based on ponies from previous generations.
Clever Clover was a G2 stallion with a really odd color scheme, I sort of revised it here. Clover the Clever is female according to FiM canon so I changed that too.
Starswirl or Star Swirl is a G3 and G4 mare. I based Starswirl the Bearded's color scheme on the G4 mare since it's closest to the way he's portrayed in the show.
