26 walked through the woods in a daze, barely able to think of anything but the delicious scent of cheese. Cheeeeeese... he thought, his stomach rumbling. He followed the scent into a clearing, and then he saw it: a big, delicious looking piece of cheese, a third of a circle, scrumptiously yellow, with yummy holes visible where the other pieces had been cut off it. 26 didn't wait another second and ran into the clearing, to the picnic cloth, jumped on top of the plate, and sank his incisors into the cheese, taking a big bite. It was even more delicious than it smelled, a wonderful creamy flavour washing over him as he chewed and swallowed the bite.
“Uh, hi, mousie,” said a surprised voice.
“Hewwo,” 26 said, trying to keep the cheese from falling out of his mouth as he spoke.
“You, uh, want a piece too?”
26 nodded vigorously as he swallowed the creamy goodness. A knife larger than his body sliced off a fifth of the remaining cheese. 26 froze. Holding the knife was a blue paw that had webbing between the digits for swimming. With terror, he followed the paw towards the huge creature he had completely ignored in his hunger for her cheese. A streamlined body covered in short, but thick blue fur. Four legs, but also a long fish tail. A gorgeously shimmering mane around a finned canine head. 26 almost fainted as the dark eyes of a Vaporeon looked down at him curiously from far above. How had he missed her? How had he walked right into a fox's picnic?
But then he realised she wasn't going to eat him; she was eating what remained of the disappeared two-thirds of the cheese instead. She was holding only a small piece in her paw, the teeth marks on its edges and the mild rounding of her belly showing clearly what had happened to the rest of it. 26 sighed in relief, panting with the aftershock. “Oh, thank heavens!”
The Vaporeon raised an eyebrow. “Are you alright, mousie?” She popped the last bite of cheese in her paw into her mouth.
“Yeah!” 26 said, laughing a bit at his narrow escape. “More than alright! You've eaten all that cheese!”
The Vaporeon blushed and looked down at her potbelly self-consciously. “Well, I'm waiting for my husband for the picnic, but he's gonna be another hour, so I just thought I'd get a small slice of cheese and, er, that became a big slice.”
26 flushed at his gaffe. “Er, well, that's really understandable, it's really good cheese.” He took a bite of the slice she'd cut off for him.
The fox grinned, making 26's heart jump at seeing how many sharp, white teeth she had. “So it is... You know, when Boreas finally shows up and there's a quarter of a cheese wheel sitting there, it's obvious I've been rude and started without him. But if there's no cheese at all...”
26 chuckled. “He wouldn't know there had been cheese in the first place!”
Aqua cocked her head, took the last piece of cheese, and took a big bite. “Pwecisewy! My name is Aqua, by the way.”
“I'm 26!” He said, sitting down on the cloth and marvelling at the size of the piece she'd cut off for him. A mere sliver to a Vaporeon, a full dinner to a mouse.
“Ohh, so that's why you wear that shirt,” Aqua said, smiling.
“Yep!” 26 said. They ate the rest of their cheese in companionable silence. As 26 swallowed the last bite, he lay back with a sigh, his tummy wonderfully full, a round little blue ball that made his shirt crumple up. “Ahhh, that was so good...”
Aqua giggled and rubbed his belly with a single digit. “Look at you. And I thought I was getting chubby.”
The cheese filling up his belly felt so very good 26 didn't mind. “A bit of cheese is soon a lot to a mouse... But you ate sooo much cheese! I wish I could stomach that much...”
Aqua blushed again. “I did overdo it a bit, yeah...” she said, giving her own tummy a poke.
“Will you even have room for the rest of the picnic later?”
“I don't know,” Aqua said. “I guess I should make some room for it, shouldn't I? Would you mind rubbing my belly to help me digest?”
“Uhhh,” 26 said, feeling a pang of instinctual fear at the thought of getting so close to a fox's belly. “D-do you think you would even feel it?”
“I'm sure I would. Please?”
“I guess I owe you for the cheese. Sure- woah!” Aqua picked him up, lay down on her back, and put him on her belly. His feet sank a little into the fur and chub, but there was clearly a full stomach underneath it. It was a bit like standing on a soft, warm hill, the mild slope reaching its peak a bit above Aqua's navel. He got down on all fours, his own gut swaying below him, and started rubbing. “Is that right?”
Aqua's stomach heaved with a sigh. “Yeah, that's nice. Try rubbing in clockwise circles, it helps digestion most.”
“Like this?”
26 almost lost his balance as Aqua's stomach kneaded the cheese in response, the internal motion quite powerful and unleashing a loud gurgling sound. “Hihihi, yeah like that.”
26 got into a rhythm as he continued rubbing in the spring sunlight for a while, Aqua's tummy slowly getting softer and losing some of its roundness. After a while, he sank to his knees into soft pudge. Then Aqua sat up; 26 managed to remain standing by quickly using her belly button as a foothold.
“Mmm,” she said, “nothing like a belly rub to work up an appetite.”
26 was suddenly aware of a dangerous gleam in her dark eyes, of a new way she looked at him. The same way she had looked at the cheese. Her belly, which he'd started to think of almost as a soft, warm, overinflated waterbed, suddenly seemed a lot less friendly. “Um, good. After all, Boreas will soon be here for the picnic.”
“Yeah, but that'll still take a while,” Aqua said, pouting a little. “I don't like waiting for food...”
“S-so I noticed,” 26 said, as he felt Aqua's stomach, under a layer of fat, gurgle within her. “Good thing you have this entire picnic soon, i-isn't it?”
Aqua smiled, and suddenly she was the friendly, full, cheese-eating girl again. “Yeah, it is. Mmm, the bread should be delicious! Even without cheese.”
26 quietly breathed a sigh of relief at his barely-averted doom. But it had reminded him Aqua was a carnivorous fox ten times his size who probably devoured mice all the time. Even if they shared a passion for cheese, her gluttony could easily lead him to follow it. “Enjoy the rest of your meal. Bye-bye!”
“Thanks for rubbing my belly,” Aqua said. Suddenly, she bent forwards and gave him a friendly lick, her massive red tongue drenching him.
“Yuck!” 26 said, laughing a bit and shaking himself out. But as he looked up at Aqua, he realised things he had gone from the frying pan into the fire, with only a brief moment on the counter in between. Her eyes were large and her mouth was hanging a little open as she stared right at him.
“Ohhh,” she said softly. “You're delicious.”
“I-I see, er-”
“You taste the most mousy of any mouse I've ever et!”
“D-don't you mean 'met'?” 26 squeaked, backing away slowly as he hopped from her belly onto her rear leg.
Aqua grinned a terrifying grin, the grin cheese sees just after someone ate 'just a small slice' of it to wet her appetite. “Either way. You make me realise just what this picnic has been missing...”
26 jumped off her leg and started running, but a massive fishtail barred his way. Then Aqua picked him up again and brought him to level with her head. “M-more belly rubs? I-I can give you more belly rubs, j-just put me down and-”
A massive tongue shot out and lapped all over him, drenching his fur and shirt. “Mmmmm! It misses mouse! Delicious meesies...”
26 squeaked in terror as she brought him closer to her opening maw. Running away would never work, this hungry creature could easily catch him. “Th-then go catch one! O-one who you don't owe for rubbing your gut!”
Aqua stopped and closed her maw a bit. It was still close enough to smell the weak scent of cheese on her breath, but there was actually conflict on her face.
26 capitalised on his chance. “Please, Aqua, remember what a nice time we had together! P-please, don't eat me. Y-you're nice, and not like other foxes – except for the hunger – andandand... Please, just don't eat me! Anything but that!”
26 had never expected to see pity on a fox's face, but that was what he saw in Aqua. “...Sorry. I'll go hunt and get another mouse.”
26 wasn't sure if he'd survive the rollercoaster of fear and relief that today was. “Thank you! Thank you so much!”
A mischievous grin flitted over her face. “Well... One last lick can't hurt...”
“Yuck,” 26 said, fighting against the huge tongue for the third time as it lapped all over him. “Ugh f-fine, you can taste, as long as you don't – yuck – eat me.”
As she stopped licking, Aqua's face once again displayed pure hunger. “Deal. Mmm, I can't walk while tasting you, though... Ooh, I got an idea!”
Before 26 could protest, her huge maw opened up in front of him. Dozens of sharp, white teeth and that strong, drooly tongue faced him, and behind them her deep, dark, eager gullet. He screamed as she tossed him into her mouth, as he thought this deep-red view would be the last thing he'd ever see...
But he didn't go any deeper. She held on to his tail. “A-Aqua?!”
As she spoke, Aqua's tongue went everywhere, pushing up against 26 and shoving him from side to side in her mouth. Her voice was loud, coming from the depths straight ahead. “Dis way I can taste wou whiwe I humt wifoud fwawwowwing wou!”
“O-okay,” 26 squeaked. “J-just let me turn around, this view is terrifying!”
“Suwe.” Aqua let go of 26's tail and he scrambled around, as she giggled. “That tickews!”
26 took his position looking out of her mouth instead, trying not to think about the slippery downward slope his hind legs and tails rested on and focussing on the outside. Aqua had stood up now. “W-when can I come out again?”
“Foon,” Aqua said. “When I catff awoder moufe wou cam-” As she talked, 26 slowly slid backwards on the slippery, wet surface of her tongue. He didn't realise it until he suddenly felt the slope under his feet give away to a deep chasm instead. Just as he tried to grab a tooth to crawl back, her tongue buckled in reflex, throwing him entirely into her eager gullet, which gladly enveloped him with a loud 'gulp'. “Whoops!” Aqua said, actually sounding shocked.
“Nooooo!” 26 screamed, trying desperately to find some kind of hold in her oesophagus, and failing entirely. It was even slipperier than her tongue, a smooth, vertical tube, and the walls contracted above him and loosened below him, pushing him inexorably downwards. It was very damp and warm, and what little light came from above extinguished in moments, leaving 26 in blackness.
“Uhh, sorry,” Aqua's voice echoed oddly inside her, sounding a deformed and a bit deeper. “I-I didn't mean to do that.”
“Then let me out! Let me out!” 26 screamed, trying to scratch at the walls, anything to slow down his descent. “Stick your finger into your throat, get me out of there!”
Aqua made a reluctant noise. “Ugh, no. I don't wanna do that. Sorry, mousy, but you're my delicious meal after all. I wish I could've savoured you longer...”
“B-but I'm not food, you can't-”
“...And you're so small... No way you'll fill me up. Oh, you really wetted my appetite. I guess... I could go hunting for more anyway!”
Just as 26 wanted to reply, there was a squeeze around his round tummy pushing the air out of him. For one moment, he had hope he might've got stuck, but then he got through, splashing down into a warm, creamy liquid that came up to his waist if he stood up. When he did so, his head touched the warm, fleshy ceiling. He felt around in the dark: he was in a warm, oval room half-filled with the liquid that smelled a bit like cheese. The walls moved about and kneaded him, a little like the walls in the oesophagus had done, but now it clearly wasn't meant to move him. They also pulsed with Aqua's heartbeat, which sounded like a heavy drum in here, about twice a second. He could feel where he had entered, but trying to open it again was like trying to lift a concrete elephant. “Let me out!” he screamed, both in panic and because Aqua might not hear otherwise. “Aqua, I'm in your stomach! I'll get digested if you don't have mercy!”
“Sorry, mousy, that's what happens to food,” Aqua said oddly. It took 26 a moment to realise that was what whispering sounded like inside a belly.
“But I'm not food!” 26 cried, the walls pressing about on him. It might've felt like a massage if the situation wasn't so terrible. “This cheese is food, I'm a mouse!”
“And mice are food to us foxes. Both you and-” Suddenly a massive earthquake bounced 26 around in the soft chamber and sloshed Aqua's stomach acids everywhere. When she spoke again, 26 had to clutch his ears to protect them from her booming, triumphant voice. “YOU! GOTCHA! ...Ohh, you're so delicious too! I'll hunt just one more!”
“What's going on?!” 26 said. The submerged parts of his body were beginning to itch, and now that his eyes were getting used to the darkness of Aqua's insides, he could vaguely see, a weak, deep-red light permeating even in here. “What's happen- ouch!”
The sphincter he'd entered through had opened and a larger mouse's butt had flown into his face. He tried to use his chance to get out again, but it closed right after Aqua's second prey, impossible to get out. The other was in a state of panic and squeaked and squirmed, kicking 26 about a bit as they completely filled up Aqua's stomach together. “Oh nononono, I've been eaten! Help! Help!”
“Ow, ow, stop that! Don't panic!”
The other mouse gasped and grabbed 26. “You're alive?! You're in here and you're still alive? Oh, thank heavens, I thought I was a goner! Phew! I've always had nightmares about getting eaten whole and alive by some hungry creature, but I guess it's not so bad if you just stay alive... You must get a lot of free food in here!”
“Sorry...” 26 said. “I-I've been in here for only a minute or two longer than you. I think we're both goners...”
“Noooo!”
Then the sphincted opened again, and this time, a rat started to get pushed in, well over twice as large as 26. But despite Aqua's stomach already being full, she still fitted in: as she was pushed in, the muscular stomach walls extended, growing Aqua's stomach to fit all three of them – just barely. There were more terrified conversations about their shared fate, and when Aqua started running and jumping again, there was all the more room for them to bounce around. The stomach expanded again as two rabbits entered shortly after one another, arguing and fighting over whose fault it was they had been eaten. 26 briefly thought Aqua's gluttony might be their salvation: with her stomach growing in size, her acids were now only a small layer of goop on the bottom: she surely couldn't digest them without enough acid! But during the next set of bouncing around, he ended up squeezed against one of the walls and found acid seeping down it. More was being made.
Several more mice entered, another rat, a squirrel or two, and then more mice. And with every poor damned soul entering, their hell grew a little, yet became busier. 26 was being kicked by panicked feet all the time, even when he wasn't being squeezed by the walls. The walls were kneading them all, making everyone move past each other and to different parts of the huge stomach, even when they weren't all being bounced around along with Aqua. And meanwhile the acids slowly rose. 26's itch had become a burning pain, as the acids were squeezed between everyone now. At some point, with a massive population of squirming rodents squeezed into her belly, Aqua's belly had started swaying rhythmically from side to side as she walked, everyone sloshing now one way, then the next, waves of acid coming predictably in the dark. The inexorable movements of the sway and the kneading took 26 out of the middle and pressed him against a warm, stretched wall. It was a bit brighter here, a little light shining through Aqua's belly walls. He was pretty low down, as the acids submerged him all the time except during one peak of the sway. Something pressed on 26's wall every sway, and he realised it was Aqua's leg pushing her gut aside. It made 26 realise just how close-by freedom and life were: just behind a thin layer of stomach wall and skin. But no matter how much he scratched, he couldn't hurt the tough, muscular walls.
Suddenly, the world turned upside down with a loud sloshing. Gravity came from the other side, a lot of the acid retreated, and the sway stopped. But the kneading only increased, pushing him back into the mass of rodents. They were squeaking and squirming less now, as exhausted as 26 was, and some of them were starting to become mushy. 26 shouted as hard as he could, trying to appeal to Aqua's better nature one last time, but there was no way she could hear him this deep inside her belly. He heard her say something occasionally, but now the size of her stomach made the echoes very weird, making her incomprehensible. 26 tried to hold on, in the hopes he could somehow get out, but was getting more and more tired as the kneading continued relentlessly, moving them all about, covering them all in acids again and again, and tenderising them. His consciousness slowly slipped away into the hot, humid gurglyness as the digestion process continued.
