*says I'm a huge fan of the Spyro series*
*most of my art is basically adjusting the character designs because a lot of them really bother me*
Hah hah, I suck as a fan of anything.
The Professor model from Spyro doesn't really look like any sort of species beyond "funny animal with dog nose". If anything, he looks more like a bear than Moneybags, let alone a mole. Plus it always kind of bugged me that he's Blink the Mole's uncle, but Blink actually looks like a mole while The Professor still looks like a weird ageless bear thing. So, a revamp he got.
He...still kind of looks like a bear (first time I've drawn a mole), but I will admit I just like the image of someone manipulating beakers and a pencil with digging claws.
Plus I do dig The Professor as a character and it's sad he doesn't get much art when he is a major Spyro character and is the driving force in several games. I think he accidentally helps the villains at least three times, including the time he totally creates a roboticization ray in a secret volcano lair.
Not much is known about The Professor; his name is pretty much unknown for reasons left only to him, his age is a complete mystery (and he was old when Hunter and Elora are born so even they don't know), and his history has been pretty much lost to the sands of time. All that is really known about his past is that, after he decided that the underground tunnel life of the mole race was not for him, he and his best friend Montgomery Moneybags the Third (aka the current Moneybags' father) were daring explorers and their exploits are the reason why the Moneybags family is so ridiculously wealthy and why The Professor has the money to afford all of his ridiculous experiments.
The fact that his best friend's son has grown up to be such a pompous, money-grubbing windbag just breaks his heart.
The Professor really means well in what he does, but his rather lax views on safety and animal testing, along with the relative ease his technology can be adapted into weapons for global domination have led some people (mostly Hunter and occasionally Agent 9) to speculate that The Professor was evil in his younger years and his current actions are a means of atonement. So far, this has yet to be proven and remains Avalarian gossip.
