The day after Bellwether's arrest:
Florauna City. A metropolis for animals, not quite as large or well known as the city of Zootopia, but with not as much hustle and bustle. Just located 171 miles west of Bunnyburrow, this peaceful city surrounded by rich beautiful forest is about to get a lot louder in the world.
It was late at night as the city's natural history museum began its weekly late night tour. A young panther girl tour guide was showing her group around the many exhibits the five block long building had to offer. Standing in the main hall with different halls of exhibits in different directions, the young guide was showing the group of different animals and their families to their first exhibit. “As you can see, we have many different eras of history that stretch all the way from the late Stone Age to the invention of the first automobile. If you'll follow me through here,” she lead them trough an archway we will explore the ancient wonders of insects.”
A bunny girl funnily bickered with a boy anteater like two kids trying to figure out which of their superheroes would win in a fight. “Bugs are gross! Plus they get in your ears when it's hot out.” The anteater boy smiled as he jokingly and gently poked her in the arm. “No they're not, they're delicious! Especially ants.” The crowd politely chuckled.
“That's because you guys eat ants all the time.” The crowd chuckled again at her comment. The bunny girl's mom embarrassingly knelt her head down to her. “Now now sweetie, that's not very nice.” The tour guide turned around and slowly walked backwards to speak directly at them as they neared the first exhibit.
“Actually, you'd be surprised how many different animals still eat insects these days as a form of nutrition.” She stopped walking once they got close enough to the exhibit. “Over the centuries of our evolution, some animals such as echidnas, aardvarks, aardwolves and especially anteaters, as we have some with us today,” she gestured her paw at the anteater family who happily replied the gesture to the group, “Are insectivores. And while we animals may have evolved past are carnivorous ways, the smaller, lesser creatures of the planet have stayed the same.” She turned around to face the exhibit which housed a replica of an anthill. “Some insects, such as the ant family here, are one of many different types of insectivore nutrition...”
As the guide continued to talk, a tall masculine figure at the back of the group, wearing a large brown raincoat, black gloves and boots, and a darker brown fedora, was ignoring her and watching a local news announcement on his phone. The announcer was a female timber wolf with a male coyote as her co-anchor. “As stated earlier we have now been informed and are fully aware of the cause of the breakout of savage animals in the city of Zootopia. The Mayor of the city, Leodore Lionheart, was originally accused of being involved with the incident and was also charged with kidnapping and imprisoning the first fourteen animals to turn savage. But it seems that it was all a great misunderstanding as the real culprit has been identified as Assistant Mayor Dawn Bellwether.”
The camera then cut to her co-anchor as a still photo of Dawn in a prison outfit faded in next to him on the screen. “Miss Bellwether was found guilty of plotting to turn all of Zootopia's prey population against the entire predator population. The credit for exposing her crime-” Before he could finish hearing what the co-anchor could say, the mysterious figure was interrupted by the guide.
“Sir...Sir?” He looked up slightly to see the group already beginning to move again. The angle of the ceiling lights made it hard to see his face clearly under his fedora. “Sorry to interrupt whatever you're doing on your phone, but we are continuing on to our next exhibit.”
He quickly set a few things on his phone before he turned it off and put it away into his pocket. “Sorry about that. Please. Continue.”
Following the guide, they came up to a display of different types of petrified wood. The group gathered around to hear what the guide had to say. “What we have here are pieces of ancient petrified wood from across the world.” She pointed to each individual piece. “Here we have red wood, maple, oak, and pine. We had to move these out of their designated hall for remodeling, so we thought it best to put them up here the insect hall until said remodeling is finished.”
The bunny girl raised her hand excitedly. “What kind of new things will be put up in the hall the wood was in?”
The guide kindly smiled at her. “I'm glad you asked that, we will-” The mysterious individual was once again ignoring the guide's words and stared at the display of petrified wood. The maple wood in particular caught his attention more than the others. There was moderate excitement in his voice.“There you are.” He spoke quietly to himself so that no other animals in the group could hear him. He lifted up his right arm and pulled back his sleeve just enough to show a watch at the end of his gloved hand. He was strangely making sure not to show any signs of fur or skin, for he did not want anyone to know what type of animal he was underneath his disguise. “Three...two...one...”
Just then, all of the lights in the museum suddenly turned off all at once. The crowd began to slightly panic from such a sudden event as the bunny and anteater kids screamed from fear. “Now now everyone, calm down! I'm sure it's just a sight power outage. We've had a similar one last week so I'm sure they'll be back on in no time at all.” The guide was trying her best to ease the other animals' fear. Just as everyone was about to settle, the sound of shattering glass shocked them back into a panic. “What was-” The guide was then pushed to the ground by a strong force as the crowd of animals continued to panic. As the guide got her footing, the lights came back on. The other animals soon calmed down as the guide brushed off her shirt. “Everyone okay? We all good?” The group nodded and muttered calmly at first, until they saw the shattered display case of the exhibit behind her. “Is that...oh my word.” The group began to mutter amongst themselves as the guide pulled out her walkie. “Security, we have a situation here!”
Later, outside the museum, four cop cars pulled up to the front entrance of the museum to start setting up a crime scene. As the different species of animal cops situated themselves in and outside the building, two individuals could be seen disappearing a block away. One of which being the tall mysterious one that was among the tour group, while the other appeared smaller and with a feminine figure dressed in black.
A half-hour after the theft at the museum took place, both individuals were later seen in an apartment building on the other side of the city. The culprit, the tall male with the raincoat disguise, was sitting at a table in the large spacious room examining the petrified maple wood. The other female individual was behind a changeling room divider getting into a more civilian look. Her silhouette could not be seen, so her own animal identity was masked as well. “That test last week seems to have paid off.” She spoke with a caring tone. “You were in and out by the time they came back on. I was honestly scared there when I cut the power.”
The male individual was still examining the maple wood. While the female's tone sounded more caring, his was more direct. Like a commanding officer discussing plans with a soldier. “You did well. You said I could count on you and you were true to your word.” A soft chuckle could be heard behind the divider, as if she was very happy with the words he said to her. He then reached for a TV remote next to him on the table. “Before I had a chance to finish seeing what had happened I was interrupted by the tour guide. So I quickly set it to record here at a later time to not miss anything important.” He played the news he recorded from his DVR. “Seems Dawn was found out much more sooner than I expected. It'll affect our plan but only moderately.”
The female individual then spoke concernedly. “She...she was found out? But...by who? And how?” She sounded more concerned for how it would affect the male individual, almost as if she cared for his well-being more than her own.
“We'll find out soon enough, don't worry.” His tone now sounded more caring than direct. He then started to examine the maple wood again, this time more carefully and closely. “Once I crack this thing wide open, both figuratively and literally,” the female chuckled a little louder this time behind the divider, “We'll be all set. It'll take a couple of months, but once it's ready...” He then pulled out his phone and opened up a map route to a city. “We'll being heading for Zootopia in no time.”
