Personally quite proud of how this turned out. Started out as an Aussie pride posing thing but then it turned into this tribute to ANZAC diggers (being that over here in Australia it was ANZAC Day on Monday, 25th April). Whilst my ancestors to my knowledge never actually served either at Gallipoli or the Western Front, I am nonetheless proud of the tradition and example the soldiers set and the work of the armed forces today regardless of whether they command air, sea, or land, or even emergency and police forces here at home. To all that serve, I truly salute you....
For those wondering what is ANZAC Day?
Anzac Day goes beyond the anniversary of the landing on Gallipoli in 1915. It is the day on which we remember all Australians who served and died in war and on operational service. The spirit of Anzac, with its qualities of courage, mateship, and sacrifice, continues to have meaning and relevance for our sense of national identity. (except taken from here: https://www.awm.gov.au/commemoration/anzac-day/ )
For those wondering on the words, it is part of the Recitation/the Ode associated with the ANZAC story. It was part of a poem written during WW1 titled 'the Fallen' and can be found here: https://www.awm.gov.au/commemoratio.....ms/recitation/
"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them."
Lest we forget..
