Despite being one of the more popular kaiju in Japan, second only to Godzilla (and possibly Mothra), ol' Gamera really hasn't had much in the way of video games.
He's had a few here and there, but nothing to the degree that Godzilla has had, and were mostly only released in Japan.
So I wanted to try my hand at doing a sprite for him. Using the character Tokka, from the Turtles in Time TMNT game, here's my first go at him. Still missing his tail. Based the color on a Gamera game sprite's color pallete. Also used picture referrences.
How's he look? I plan to replace him later on when I finish with the final touches.

they were only released in Japan.
There was one for the Super Nintendo, kind of a "overhead strategy" game based on the first 90's series movie, where you play as the military trying to ward off both Gamera and the Gyaos. Kinda hard to follow, much less play since it's in Japanese.
Then there was a sorta fighting game released on the Gameboy Platforms, I think it deals with fighting Gamera's various foes over the years. Kinda difficult to play due to a weird control scheme that dictates the actions taken. And is, again... in Japanese.
Then the only other one that I know of was this game for the Playstation 1, called "Gamera 2000", where you played as a jet fighter-ish vehicle pilot flying alongside Gamera taking on an alien invasion or something. This is only notable (to me) since it has cinematic cutscenes with live-actors... speaking English and acting very poorly.
You can find ROMs for most of these games on the net.
