I like to imagine that the junk in DJ's trunk is allegorical to a friend's various faults--it can be annoying and up front and in your face, but the more you hang out with someone and get to caring for someone, you begin to forget about it. These little trees I like to imagine are like magical charms that obliterate any uncomfortable scent that could be in the area.
