Bisquick is a lifesaver when you're in college and on a very limited budget. And my roommate ran out of plates - and my desk is cluttered - so that's why this piece of cake is on a paper towel on my bed.
I used this recipe to make the cake, but I'll probably modify it next time I decide to make it, since the final product, made exactly as the recipe says, is a little flavorless. But that's an experiment for a later day, after I get more Bisquick.
Ingredients
For the cake
-2 cups Bisquick
-2/3 cup water or milk (I used water for this cake; milk would be better)
-1 egg
-2 tablespoons white sugar
For the topping
-1/3 cup Bisquick
-1/3 cup brown sugar
-1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
-2 tablespoons butter
Steps
Preheat your oven to 400F and thoroughly grease a 9x9 or 8x8 (or 9x7, that's what I used) baking dish. Mix together the ingredients for the cake and pour the batter into your prepped dish. Blend the topping ingredients until crumbly. Spread the topping over the cake batter, and bake for 25 minutes. Serve warm.
