i have no excuse for posting this; it's not even a particularly good photo. but just look at the face. i had to keep it.
red wing blackbirds are the best. they're small, loud, aggressive, and prone to violently attacking others for getting too close. i feel that in my bones.

i dunno. the ones out here are pretty peaceful. Loud, yes, but they generally ignore humans unless we get too close then they just bugger off a ways. Maybe our birds are just used to people lol
its a pity they have been dropping notes off their song over the years though. Their song used to have 5 lovely notes in sequence every morning now I only hear 2 or maybe 3 if i'm lucky :(

you must have a peaceful subset, 'cause they're notoriously violent lil birds! the ones here, even in urban areas, will divebomb you for getting too close during spring. the rest of the year, they're pretty chill, but springtime means they'll take your head off.
the ones here seem to still be up around 4-5 i think. i am in a rural area... i wonder if city noise has a role in that, considering there have been studies done that showed it definitely affected other birds in negative ways. :<

makes sense for springtime. nest building! if i remember right, arent these reed nesters that prefer wetlands? You could almost step on a nest if youre not careful o_o
and yeah the city noise is whats doing it. they have to be so much louder to be heard by other birds so their songs have become shorter as a result.

yep! this was actually taken at a local wetlands reserve park. they fly to the highest reed (or in this case small tree) where they can display and basically scream at you if you get close. it's a pretty scream, but if you hang around they'll fly at your face.
i love some violent birds, though, honestly. these guys are just feisty.
that's sad though. i know it's been shown to be causing issues for songbirds because they can't hear their chicks and it makes it harder for them to find if they fall from the nest. :<
