Finally have WIPS since starting work last week.
The sleeves are only pinned to the coat for right now. -they will be basted by hand and machine sewn to the coat tomorrow in class-
The whole coat so far has been made by myself.
There is going to be lining in the coat as well. -which is being sewn as well!-
This and a dress are both being sewn at the same time. ._.
Also this will have a slit in the back and before adding the lining will be inserting the shoulder pads by hand and then stitching the lining to cover the stitches on the inside.
The show is on the 27th of this month.
And as far as work goes only the following are to be finished before then:
Trenchcoat
Dress
Adjustments to the jacket and pants
Everything else is finished. : 3

I was gonna ask if it was going to be thickened, or if this is just practicing design and meant to be cheap. but then you said it will have lining, so that answers that, I think. >w<
I love the design. I wouldn't go with that material if this is meant as actual costume piece or clothing. but for just making the design, thin cheap fabric is always good (not that I know whether that's cheap fabric or not. just that it looks thin).

It's really not a cheap fabric XD;
It's gabardine which can be a bit expensive...as this was material bought from my teacher.
The lining is currently being worked on. So yes it will have lining in it. ^^
This is not the finished product here or even close...
It was just to show a very early process before can take pictures again. -which I'm not a 100% sure when!-
I was more going with a lighter coat because of allllllll the layers underneath that will be wearing.
As living in Florida...it get's brutal in the summer time. ;w;
I'm more working with material that is light enough so when adding layers to the whole outfit...won't be dying from a heat stroke. XD;
It's a little thin but that's just the photo from the distance. It's a fairly nice weight material ^^ and works really well when creating costume pieces.
I'm not a 100% sure how to pronounce the fabric...but it's known as stretch Gabardine.
It's well worth the money when it comes to making costumes : )

oh gods, yeah! O_O Florida in the Summer is literally Hell. one of the reasons I'm moving out of here to Oregon in July.
but yeah, the lining should definitely be enough to keep it from falling apart, without making it too hot to wear with layers. :)
as I said before, I love the design. ^.^ it's magnificent. the lapels look perfect, I need to learn how to make lapels. what kinda stitches do you use? both the setting on your machine and whatever hand-stitching you do.

Actually I've been basting everything by hand except darts first then machine stitching everything afterwards. : ) It really helps a LOT when it comes to keeping your fabric from moving too much in the machine.
The machine stitching use are as followed:
Industrial machine - Juki or any of those heavy duty machines - 2.5 stitch
Domestic machine - Babylocks or Brother or any of the machines you can get that you can take every where - 3.5 stitch
The only thing do not baste would be the darts. : 3
Basting is a great thing to do when you really want your material stay in place really well. As just using pins tend to move the fabric a bit...where if you baste at the edge of your fabric and have a few pins here and there. : 3 it will help a lot with having a nice clean stitch path all the way down.
And as far as attaching everything...tend to use mostly 5/8ths seam allowences. Unless the instructions state other wise. Which can be between 3/8ths and 1/2.
If you ever need anything else. Don't hesitate to ask. ;w;

thanks, I'm really grateful. ^.^ I'm always looking to improve. I'm honestly shit at machine-sewing, and I've been hand-stitching everything. I learned how to sew mostly from the SCA, and a little bit from my mom and from Country Living magazine, so I pretty much only know traditional stitches. I mostly use running stitch, back stitch, cross stitch, fish bone stitch, cradle stitch, loop stitch, and various decorative or reinforcing stitches. also, seam stitching. XD I'm great at seams.
I'll look up how-to tutorials on basting, because that will really speed up my doll-making.
