I'd like for everyone to give a round of applause to
Tofu93 for this incredible work (original here!) that has also inspired a quick Nyxis short story! Enjoy! ^^
"I don't get it, Guys. I don't get it. Everyone was so mean in elementary, in middle, in high school. So when I finally got to the Academy it was like heaven, you know?"
My guests on the airship, Princess Eflasia the Cabbit and Lorelei the Cheetah-Dragon, give each other an amused glance as I take a sip of virgin daiquiri. It's the first week of summer, and we take every opportunity to chill like the melting droplets on our cold drink glasses.
"For the first time in eighteen years, I wasn't ostracized by my peers. Everyone was there to learn, just like me! ...Or so I thought."
Eflasia covers a petite yawn with a paw and cuts to the question, sharp as a paper cut. "How many suitors did you have, Nyx?"
A chorus of giggles rebound across the airship as I lean forwards on the tea table and bury my face in my wings. "Is there a point to counting mosquitoes?"
"That's what you get for playing hard to get." Lorelei swings her mug with such enthusiasm, I'm afraid all of it might slosh overboard.
"I tell them in advance that I am not interested!"
"Exceptionally hard to get!" A hearty laugh with her second swing, and all of her beer is now definitely overboard.
"You should be flattered everybody wants your hand." Eflasia chuckles facetiously, but my answer is pretty sincere.
"Oh, hush you. I wouldn't wish this on anyone!"
"Were they all men?"
"There was one girl. She asked me to dance in the hallway with her, and a friend was kind enough to pull me away and tell me she was hitting on me." I sigh. "I learned a hard lesson about humanity. Saying 'no' never seemed to deter unwanted suitors, so I resorted to saying I was in a relationship. That didn't work, so I asked friends to be substitute boyfriends--You know, arms I could casually grab in public to get I-am-not-interested across--and then some of those friends started crushing on me. ...I had to break off friendships with two guys because the stares they were giving me were just too weird; and one of the two had a fiancée! When I caught him gazing lovestruck at me like that, with her sitting right across the table, it really broke my heart. I thought, 'No way, people don't do this, no way'... Ah, I didn't mean for all this to turn into a rant. I do feel better now, thanks for listening me out."
Eflasia and Lorelei aren't surprised...they know what I'm talking about. Ugh, I feel bad for them.
"My God," I laugh, tossing my hair in the breeze, "I know how to deal with it now. But, in hindsight, my worst encounters are really some dumb horror story. Naive girl, wants to believe the best in people, can't see their true motives behind her great expectations."
"You gonna write it?"
"Maybe."
