i'm on hour 50 of the first game,
yea, I'm gonna get through it,
i discovered that it's not about being
a big heavy armored badass,
it's taking the lightest thing,
in my case a poncho, leggings
and an elite knight helmet to cover
my zombie face, and I'm also wearing the
ring to improve equipment load.
so now, I'm as fast as I would be naked,
and the next trick is
DON'T GET HIT.
I have knocked out about 8 bosses with this method.
and discovered my favorite character in the game

I'm on my second character about 33 hours in and I've plowed through everything to Sen's Fortress. I have not fucked with the catacombs or New Londo Ruins yet because you neeeed some shit from Anor Londo first. In about 5 hours I went from only having beaten the Taurus Demon to taking out the Hydra, Moonlight Butterfly, Sif, Quelaag, Gargoyles, Capra, Gaping Dragon, every Black Knight and named Knight to that point. Now I'm grinding and trying my damnedest to get through this miserable hellhole.
Oh shit, the fucking Valley of the Drakes. I believe the fire ember is actually for the giant skeleton blacksmith in the catacombs. Be very careful going down there or it is a nightmare coming back up. The Tomb of the Giants is nearly completely pitch black and there are big ass skeletons that can throw you around and very quickly to a fall to your death. Not to mention necromancers for the upper areas that will keep bringing the skeletons back to life that will swarm the shit out of you and they nearly all have bleed effects.
Killing the necros has a chance of dropping a lantern. It's one of the least advised methods as it takes the place of your shield and only illuminates when you "block" with it. The others are a cast light spell or the sunlight maggot. The spell you can get from the woman in the gold golem around the left side of the lake where the Hydra was. The maggot is a headpiece behind Quelaags lair dropped from an enemy. If you go that route, you may want to kill EVERYTHING before getting to Lost Izalith or Solaire will not be joining you for any more jolly cooperation.
If you have the Rusty Iron ring follow to the left side past the waterfall and the ladder up to the Darkroot Gardens and there will be a big enclosed area with a Gold Golem in it like the Ice ones but with a shit load more health. Kill it and it will release the woman Dusk of Oolacile. Once you've done that she can be summoned at the shore where the Hydra was and you can buy a shit load of magic from her.
what!?
really?!
lol, okay I can do that next time I play.
this game reminds me so much of the classic
NES games, specifically this one:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HutD8ZXZucY
this game play is exactly like dark souls.
I thought about making a journal comparing the 2.
another reason this has been such a fun trip,
it really brings a community of gamers together
much like older games did with little secrets and
cryptic shit that you would only learn from a magazine.

Good lord, funny thing you mention old school hand your ass to you on a silver plate games. Let's see if you remember what this came from.
Pretty sure they might have nicked that one from Demon Sword.
The more you kill, the longer and more branched the sword gets.
