While the Wonderbolts fall right into Sombra's trap, Sunset Shimmer finds herself conflicted. To resolve it, she goes to see her former teacher and mentor, Princess Celestia.
As a side note, it appears after all I did make an oblique reference to Equestria Girls. I don't know, so far I think I've done a pretty good job of weaving my own narrative around canon.

I've been waiting for this scene for a long time. :) This moment between Sunset Shimmer and Celestia never happened on the series but I really think it needed to. It's too late now but I'd have brought her onto the main series after the spinoff and mixed things up a bit.
I've always disliked the way they think kids can't handle death and mature themes and complex arcs, but the truth is that they can handle a lot. I've seen some cartoons do some impressive arcs and themes, so I know it can be done. I don't know why all cartoons don't. MLP does some good stuff, I can see the potential, I'd much rather see them push the boundaries of a 'girly' show than stay in the safe zone. Having long been a fan of strong female characters (Have you seen my cast?) I really would love to see some truly emotional moments between the characters, like rifts between friends, friends turned enemies... etc. That stuff blows my mind.
