My character, Machai, based on some very nice line art by 
Aeonian (go follow them!). Digitally painted, with permission. I'm not terribly good with raster art but I'd say it turned out alright? Maybe I should have opted for a dark background.

This was done in Krita. I've been wanting to try that program for awhile now, as it's another open-source alternative to GIMP with a more robust set of brushes. I'd say it's as easy to use as GIMP (that is, a bit of learning curve) but the UI is more polished and is possibly a bit friendlier to artists as opposed to those who need to retouch photos. Maybe I'll check out their code base and contribute, if I can, because it's a solid piece of software.
