An older fighter design from a more tumultuous time that was brought about by the Gliese 876 colonization project. Developed by Riva-Hsi Global, a now defunct Gliese-grown industrial and defense contractor specializing in spacecraft production, and originally designated the 'RHI-1' it was originally presented to what would become the U.E.A. as an anti-piracy interceptor and escort. Their big selling point was the craft's low maintenance demands as well as its access hatch, which was built to allow the RHI-1 to dock to any standard docking port, thereby allowing it to use nearly any spacecraft in production at that time as a potential carrier. The RHI-1 was ultimately rejected due to underwhelming armor and shields, a lackluster FTL system, and with only a single light laser cannon as its singular weapon and limited ability for additional weapon attachments made the craft woefully under-gunned as a main-line fighter. Without a government contract, Riva-Hsi Global instead started selling the RHI-1 (renamed "The Bandit") to both the public and private businesses, not all of which were the most scrupulous. After Riva-Hsi Global went under, their former industrial yards came under the ownership of several cartels and criminal organizations who started producing the ship themselves both for their own use, and to sell to pirates and criminals. Since then, far from its original purpose, the craft has become synonymous with piracy and criminal enterprise in the interstellar age. So much has it become associated with piracy that few outside of criminal organizations will use Bandits due to the unwanted attention they draw from onlookers.
