This is a simple set-up to photograph the Sun & today's transit of Mercury.
Newtonian type telescope (150mm mirror F= 1200mm)
Projecting the image to white paper & then take the pic from the projected image.

my simple set up are self-built filters of Double-SideCDs or glass for welding.

Simple yet very effective. When I shot pics of the Venus transit a few years ago, I used a couple of IR filters to act like welding goggles for the camera. I think the variable ND filter would have worked as well but didn't have it with me.
