Meet Grenka the berserker.
She's an adventurer that will be joining Okuha's group later as they search for clues about Okuha's parents.
She loves a good drink and loves a good fight even more, and when she fights she goes all out with her typical berserker style which is all about attack and little to no defense relying on her tough scales as natural armor to take a few hits and wild ferocious attacks to intimidate her opponents. Though while her scales provide adequate protection she has taken to wearing lightweight armor such as chain mail, and her weapons of choice are two handed axes and dual swords.
Grenka is part of a race called the Rojvuur, more commonly known as Salamanders, who inhabit the volcanic regions of the southern empires and the larger landmass south-east of the Sea of mists. Salamanders are fiercely territorial like most of the lizard folk races and will deal swiftly with any intruders on their land. They'll rarely travel from their home as they are prone to severe homesickness after a day or two. Some, like Grenka, however do not suffer from this homesickness and get a wander lust.
Salamanders come in different colors depending on what region they come from, usually bright orange or black, Grenka's color for example is typical for the Sunset Plateau Salamanders. In general Salamanders have a very similar build and males and females look pretty much alike so it can be diffucult for outsiders to tell them apart in a reliable way. Aside from their tail flame the other thing that sets them apart from other lizzard folk are their retractable claws.
The quills on their head tend to be a good mood indicator, much like a cat's ears and tail, and they're quite sensitive to the touch so it's generally not a good idea to touch a Salamander's quills unless they consider you a very close friend or lover. Doing so otherwise comes at the risk of being mauled or bitten and a Salamander's bite is pretty bad even if they don't rip the flesh from your bones there's their poison which can cause paralasys (and in some cases temporary blindness.)
Of all the lizard races the Salamander are the largest and often taller than the average human with a common height between six and seven feet, and in very rare cases up to eight to nine feet. The latter often end up in positions of power due to their size and strength and are said to be blessed by their God.
A common misconception about Salamanders is that they're a primitive race, but they do have some culturel and technology. They have quite skilled blacksmiths for example and farmers but they really excell at brewing and distilling strong alcoholic drinks. Perhaps not surprising as the alcohol fuels their tail flame and thus their power.
Another reason for being mistaken as primitives is that nobody has ever been able to see one of the permanent Salamander settlements deeper into their territory. While the outpost settlements are typically made up of huts made out of a clay and ash mixture over a wood and straw frame their real cities are actually built out of bricks and carved volcanic rock. Dwellings there tend to be dome shaped much like their clay huts but are more elaborately decorated with carvings and sometimes even fresco paintings, typically to denote past achievements and victories in battle.
They also have an organised religion and several temples and shrines can be found throughout their settlements. Unsurprisingly fire plays an important part in this as a representation of their God, Holl' vur. What little is known about their deity seems to suggest similarities with the lesser fire elemental god Efrith who is worshipped by some of the other races.
