Anthro Dreams Podcast, Episode 001, Valentines Special

"The Scent of a Mephit" read by Peterkatt, http://www.peterkattvoice.com
Here's the first official episode of the Anthro Dreams furry-fiction podcast. I still don't have a website or feed set up for it, but I hope to get to that later this month. In the meantime, I'll continue posting work here.
There has been some confusion over whose been reading the stories. I'm the author and not the voice talent. It will probably be obvious from the podcast that I'm very new to voice work and my intros are pretty rough. It's something I'm working on though.
I already know that I need to make my notes less of a script and get used to talking more naturally on the mike. I know the intros came out a bit choppy and the audio levels aren't perfect. For my first time seriously using Audacity, it came out okay though.
Anyway, enjoy the stories and I'm open to any constructive criticism on the audio work. Also, I'm looking for writers and narrators to contribute content to the podcast, so please drop me a line if you're interested.

You know, they say the first podcast always sucks, but this... didn't. I didn't really notice any issues with the audio levels, but to be fair, I listened to this while I was waiting for the car to be done getting an oil change, so there was a lot of background noise (Fox News, to be precise).
I did think (and this is probably what you meant by choppy) there needed to be either a few more seconds of blank space or perhaps a hint of quiet music between the intros and the stories, because it felt like the next intro came in before the first story's ending had time to sink in for me.
And I thought you sounded fine. >^_^<
I liked the second story especially. It kind of reminded me of "Sweet Nothings,", except that I wasn't nearly so clever with using scent in my piece as you were in yours. >^_^<
Oh, almost forgot -- when I added this file to iTunes, it classified it as "Blues." I don't know if you were going for "Books/Spoken," which was next in the dropdown menu, but I wound up reclassifying it as "Literature."
(I still hope you can get this listed on iTunes itself -- I've gotten so spoiled by their setup.)

Thanks for the feedbac. Yeah, the spacing between stories was problematic, especially between the first one and my comments. I need to work on my timing/pacing and maybe get some music to use for the show at some point too. And thanks for the note on the ID3 tag, I'd been in a rush and completely forgot that. I'd edited the tags on all the files so they'll be ready when the site and feed is up... hopefully by the end of the month (fingers crossed).
And thanks for your compliments on the story. I'm glad you enjoyed them. I all to often forget to use scent in stories with furries, so it was nice I got it in one of them

Big problem with the FA player is that it can't cope with files over a certain sample rate. If you can, reencode your file at 44100 Hz, which you should be able to do with any standard music encoding software. The file itself isn't affected, but I prefer listening to things in the FA window, and resampling will keep it sounding smooth.
I am definitely interested in this podcast. :3

OMG, this reminds me of my old story chat site on Yahoo voice chat years ago called Uncle Kat's story hour. a group of writers would get together and read a selection of their latest story to the group. It was kinda neat but with dial-up and the f#cktardedness of yahoo made it an ordeal. Nowdays with the ability to routinely host 3-5 meg audio files this sort of thing can really take off. I really hope to see much more of this and that your podcast brings you much success!
I think you did a great job on the mike, though I'll admit, I don't have any real expertise in that area. I remember reading, "Searching the Shore" in Alone in the Dark, but it fit quite nicely in a Valentine's Day theme. I really liked the second story a lot. You've got a good thing going here, and I'm hoping for your continued success, cause you're off to a great start. This could be a great thing for writers, so I'd love to help out if at all possible; be it contributing in some way, or just helping to spread the word.
Thanks for your compliments. I'm glad you enjoyed the episode.
I'm always looking for story submissions. I have stories lined up for March and early April, but after that I'll need new content. Anything from 1,000 to around 8,000 words should fit the size of a podcast, maybe even up to 10,000 words. I'm still figuring out the length of things.
As for content, it's pretty much anything that has some anthro/furry characters and has a good story. I really like character-driven pieces too and like character drama, but humor is also appreciated too. For ratings, some sexual and violent themes will be allowed, but can't be explicit, I want to keep the rating to around PG-13 or soft R.
Darker stories would be okay, if they have good drama and emotion to them, again it comes down to whether they tell a good story or not. I will be running some dark pieces, and can always put a warning up if something is too dark or heavily dramatic.
So if you come up with something you want to submit, please send it my way.

Hmmm, thanks for the pointer. I've also seen Libsyn.com which is pay, but reasonably priced. I was going to try and set up all the code on my own site, since I have a server account, but I keep on running out of time to learn how to do it, so I'll probably just goi with one of those services to provide a feed. Then later I can get WordPress up to get content for anthrodreams.com
