i'm not trying to be a ball-buster but there ALREADY IS a Lynx pokemon in Shinx and his evolution line. Luxray is the Gleam Eyes pokemon and lynx's eyes are said to do the same, plus it has a very feline-esque design but who knows. Maybe there may be room for 2 lynx pokemon lines and that might be really cool but try not to be too hopeful. It could become some sort of tropical wildcat though since the region has a very hawaii theme.
Luxray is a lion. There's nothing lynx-like in its design. Lynxes don't have manes, lynxes don't have long tails with a tuft at the end. Just because Shinx shares the -nx at the end of the name, it doesn't make it a lynx. If it did, Jynx would also be a lynx, and it is not :/
Luxray is not a lion, trust me on that. And i don't think just because of the -inx that it would be a lynx either. pokemon are often very stylized in a specific way and considering the design of both Luxray and the actual lion pokemon Pyroar showing obvious gender differences in both the male and female design like the actual species and luxray with the lesser differences in both male and female design there is no connection. plus, real life lynxes eyes are showed sometime GLEAMING in light ..and luxray is the Gleam Eyes pokemon. While i agree that most lynxes do not have so pronounced tails pokemon have often had visual traills representing their element and is most likely a stylized choice.
On other slightly realted topics. I'm not trying to sound smart or like a jerk. However i seriously think you need to be a little nicer in the future to others comments even if they disagree.

I don't think I was being rude. I was explaining to you why I think you are wrong, and since you shared your opinion I shared mine as well, which happens to differ from yours :/ Sorry if I offended you but I don't think I did anything wrong there.

The male/female differences were introduced in gen 4. The biggest gender difference in Sinnoh was the Hippopotas' line's brown - grey palette swaps. They weren't even drawn differences, just different colours, and the other Pokémon only had slight differences in length/width of antennae, claws, fangs, et cetera. Bigger gender differences weren't introduced until Unfezant, and then Pyroar/Meowstic. Not to mention that if Pokémon followed the same gender the animals they've taken inspiration from, they would have made the Pidgey line's faces all brown instead of having a black mark http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2010.....13_634x430.jpg
And about the stylization, Luxray still shares more traits to a cartoon lion than to a cartoon lynx:

The thing is very simple: is she thinks Luxray is based on a lion (so do I btw) then that's her deal and is totally fine. If you think you thing Luxray is based on a lynx then good for you! Totally fine too. What I think is the problem is that you're like trying to prove, yes or yes, that she's wrong and you're not by launching your "encyclopedia/wiki artillery" on your comment. I think that's kinda of unnecessary if you're just sharing an opinion. Also, she just answered you in the same way you expressed yourself so I don't see where was rude treatment you're talking about.
Just my humble opinion.

Just a thought- the whole glowing/x-ray eye thing was attributed to lynx in mythology/folklore essentially. So the Luxray line incorporates both lions and lynx.
"Luxray is based on an adult male lynx or lion, or possibly the constellation Lynx or Leo, due to the fact that it resembles the animals and bears a star shape on the end of its tail. In addition, in European mythology, the lynx was said to have the supernatural power to see through solid objects, much like Luxray."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lynx_(mythology)
"It is also believed to have supernatural eyesight, capable of seeing even through solid objects. As a result, it often symbolises the unravelling of hidden truths, and the psychic power of clairvoyance."
Luxray Dex Entries:
"It has eyes which can see through anything. It spots and captures prey hiding behind objects."
"Luxray's ability to see through objects comes in handy when it's scouting for danger."
"It can see clearly through walls to track down its prey and seek its lost young."
Mainly lion body frame, but fun stuff! Definitely not attributed to lions in mythology, they represent other things. I love trivia like this! =D

i'm glad to see this has really brought alot of stuff to the table and i'm personally really glad for mewhaku for better describing what i was hoping to talk about and i'm mostly thankful for this not disolving into some sort of childish argument and everything really kept so civil. So in final summary , i guess we can all really say that maybe luxray at most is a lynx/lion hybrid possibly at best. So maybe litten will be a full lynx or even a lynx/tiger or jaguar or some other cat or pure to add into the mix.
In the end, we'll have one more big cat pokemon leaping around the plains and having more awesome fan art like the one seen above that essentially started this who interesting debate.

I don't necessarily think Luxray has too many lynx elements in the physical design, I just think it has something to do with its abilities in terms of lynx in folklore. =o So we don't have a pokemon based around lynx appearance. I'd personally love to see some sort of ice type lynx-mon.
As for Litten- I do honestly see no evidence it will look more lynx like. Long tail. I'm voting tiger or tabby. The art is great regardless!

I didn't know lynxes we described in such in folklore - in Spanish we've got a saying called "tener ojos de lince" (literally to have lynx eyes) which means to have really good eyesight. But then again all felines are said to have very good eyesight because they can see better than us in the darkness.
Luxray might these features from attributes lynxes are said to have in folklore, but Luxray is still visibly inspired on a lion. There's nothing lynx-like in its design - no beard, no pointy ears, no ear tufts, no small round tail that ends with a black spot. And if we look at colour, it still doesn't fit. Lynxes can't be black, but lions can have black manes. Just like Pidgeot is said to be able to fly at Mach 2 speed, which is impossible for any kind of bird, not only sparrows, I really think that the eyesight part was just an exaggeration from general feline abilities given that Luxray is an Electric-type, and I still think it is not a lynx at all.

That's so odd, lynx are cool. And yep! European mythology/folklore has a lot of neat stuff regarding like heraldic animals. (You know, like animals on those fancy royal/family crests.)
Lots of neat stories surrounding just about any animal that was used for such things. =D
