I would say the typing is actually nice. Because the Grass + Ground is having advantage against Fire + Fighting, due to STAB ground. Same goes to Fire + Fighting vs Water + Steel.
Unlike other generations, in which the Fire type starter stand no chance against Water starter, such as Braixen vs Greninja. Only gen 4 starters have such balancing. But the design is so so lol.
