Reminds me of a class project my art group back in france did.
We made a 3D looking painting of an open tuna can, then painted the lower (and a few upper if some fish were upsidedown) parts of the fish on, then made 3D modely of the upper part of the fish, then stuck them on to make the fish look like they were exploding off the page ^-^ I think the 3D modely were wire with paper pache'
