This be part of a larger thing but I don't think I'll post it in full because the mediocrity of it makes me itchy. *itches*
I don't think I communicated what is going on here very well. He's being swallowed up by the earth. (He can feel the soil falling over his head.)
Actual watercolor paper is nice. I'm still dreadful at them though. I besmirch the good name of hydrochromes everywhere.
Lyrical components compliments of The Smiths.

Personally I think water colors are the most difficult medium to master, so I don't think you didn't bad there. I also wouldn't have gotten the impression that the earth is swallowing him, though I did notice the patch of grass going up his rump. Overall I think it's decent. I like the expression of fear and bewilderment in the face.
This has a wonderful creepy mood but I'm afraid you're right, I wouldn't have understood he was being swallowed by the earth without your saying. If you felt inclined to continue on this theme, maybe shop in something like roots or earthen hands coming from the earth and snagging him, to make things clearer?
Yeah I had considered the root idea but my stupid metaphorical tinkering didn't jive with it. I wanted it to be part the will of natural forces and part him succumbing to those forces without much fight. Grabby roots look too much like scenario one exclusively. Visual communication is a tough nut. :c
