Another matte painting of the 'Dark-world' Venice (part photo-manipulation, part digital painting).
A less intimate shot than the last one and even less overtly furry,. so you'll just have to take my word for it that most of the people behind those windows are anthros :P

Oh man! The detail of this piece is superb! I must add this to my "awesome art screensaver" collection. It is definitely worthy! The overall atmosphere is very depressing and give you a sense of despair and you can just feel the soot on the buildings. I love the construction in the background and how the industrial plant is right next to some broken down buildings. I think one would need to zoom in to see all that detail and the water looks realistic! Fantastic job!!!!

The water is mostly a photo element, but I painted out several larger modern boats, tweaked some of the shadows and reflections, tried to give the water more of oily texture.
A lot of detail work kinda got lost in shrinking it down. I may post some detail shots at some point,.. :)

I like the atmosphere you've created there, the painted parts really merge with the photograph(s) you've used.
Somehow you've managed to capture ... uhm well .. something quite steampunk-ish. The only "flaw" to that impression - whether you tried to do steampunk or not ;) - is the modern boat in the lower left corner. ....oh well and I miss a little funnel on the boat on the channel.
