Hyper Light Drifter Fan Canvas Painting (Digital)
so i picked up a game called hyper light drifter about a 4 days ago, ive beat it twice so far. once on normal the other on NG+ which is stupidly hard yet utterly fun as all hell. the game is a gem of a little 16-bit style indie game that i dare say may just have a harder NG+ than dark souls. its story telling is told similarly to dark souls in the way it tells you nothing directly, you could play through the whole game and never learn a single thing about it. and even then what it does tell you it's limited to pictures and bodies and the scenery, there's no character dialogue except for the few npc's you do manage to run into (i counted around 4 intractable ones) and the things they tell you are told through a picture, this guy shows you the boss(s), this guy shows you a series of pictures about what happened to the indigenous race there, or you watch this npc you met from the beginning tell his life in nothing but 4 or 5 pixel art pictures. and its amazing. it leaves you with a sense of curiosity and a sensation to want to know more so you seek out these secret npc's more or you get your face an inch from the screen just to see the detail of the pixels in a dungeon to see what is being portrait there. and by the end you think you've figured it out and the game slaps you in the face with a big "THINK AGAIN!" boss fight and end cut-scene that leaves you breathless and makes you want to go back again and again and again to make sure you have all the info and then make a theory about what you think is happening. Even then the game doesn't falter to amaze you every play through, and the game got even better after i discovered the damn thing had couch co-op. something i've missed in games, being able to go through this game with a friend (with the difficulty ramped up for 2 players to make sure it isnt easy) and talk about the game and experience the story at the same time is amazing. for any of you out there who might follow me or just scrolled past this on the home page, i'd recommend you check this game out, its currently only on pc but its coming to console in October so if your on an xbox or a playstation pick this up when it drops you wont be disappointed.
oh did i forget to mention its a cyberpunk dystopian world with anthropomorphic animals as the main civilization around? ya its that cool. go check this gem of a game out ASAP.
