Determined, feisty and bolshy on court, Tasya Fangetsu cuts a much larger presence than her slight frame suggests. Indoensian basketball has come on leaps and bounds in the last ten years, and with a concerted effort and money being pumped into the nation, the fruits of that effort is now starting to show. Aditya Anggun (Civet, G) was the first to come through, and now Miss Fangetsu has every chance of being the second.
Making a breakthrough and catching the eyes of FBA scouts at World Jam playing for Indonesia alongside Anggun and Cliff Matthiews, the tigress was impressive against more experienced opposition and was one of the best non-FBA players in the tournament, with only Carol Quinones (Grey Wolf, C) stealing the headlines from her. Indonesia managed to do well in the tournament, and with Jakarta hosting the next tournament, you can imagine the swell of investment in Tasya making the FBA and becoming a star name for the Indonesian team.
The positives for Tasya are many. She has an attitude that far belies her age, is a good trainer, provides a determination and steel to the locker-room and is one of the most talented ball handlers and three point shooters to have come into the draft in many a year. She has reasonable strength for her size, and has had exposure to a higher level of play thanks to her coming through and playing at all levels of international basketball, and luckily World Jam being created at just the right time for her.
However, Tasya is an incredible risk in many other ways. She would be one of the shortest players in the FBA if she were signed, and it would be nigh on impossible to play her preferred position of Small Forward in the FBA, she would have to adapt to either Shooting Guard or Point Guard. There is also the fact that she lacks the tarditional university education some would consider to be what gives an athelete 'pedigree'. Tasya's experience comes from cutting her teeth on international basketball and the Indonesian League where she has reprsented numerous teams. Add on to that she would be one of the youngest draftees ever at 18 when the season starts and you can see why some wouldn't consider her.
Tasya loves her music, often caught wearuing huge headphones and just channelling the beats and dribbling the ball on her own, and is very much of the streetballer nature, capable of fighting for herself on court and with a good range of skills. Will her cavalier and determined 3-on-3 style fit into the more regimented and professional world of the FBA?
