Unlike the Thunderbolt and Mustang on which it is based, the Scorpion is designed primarily for atmospheric combat, with only a limited space to space ability. In space, it can handle Raider fighters, but against other, more capable fighters, it is at a serious disadvantage. In the atmosphere, however, it is superior to any other known fighter and has a tremendous ground attack capability.
