I hear the relationship between him and the boy he protects gets REALLY gay after a while.

They do grow incredibly close, that's one of the parts that I really enjoyed in the series. heck the underlying theme in the story is the power of bonds... but Ive never really had a gay vibe of them unless I was pairing them intentionally.

you should give it a try, just weather trough the first 10 or so eps [of a 50+ ep series] which is pretty standard monster collecting anime trope until you get to the meat of the series and you will be rewarded with awesome charcterizations. Fights are incredibly nice as well, a bit like playing with SRW at times when the Shikigami starts spewing out their hissatsus one after the other.

Personally Id say that ts as gay as say... G Gundam or GaoGaiGar by the end.

Honestly I wanted to see this for a long time and I already have it on torrent but never downloaded it... (too busy getting other stuff)
I said that thing about both of them because I think it's VERY cute, but that's my shotacon acting up. I liked the context and style and wanted to see it. n_n

also, I cant say the shotacon factor didnt play a part in me choosing to start the series. Admittedly My first exposure to it was a doujin of Kogenta getting screwed by Yakumo. -_-'

second had kogenta screwing souma then getting screwed by riku.

third is... well you get the idea.
