We really need to ask Jak about this xDD But as I see it - when he starts morphing, it takes minutes to do so, with him morphing from fake human face to his true face taking less, than from true to monstrous form. Any transformation he initiates himself, so the time he spends in any of his forms is not limited by anything but his will
