Warrant Officer Jax Valkyr's AH-64A Apache bucked in the air as it was peppered with a hail of anti-aircraft fire. The 10th Armoured Division's advance had slowed to a crawl in part thanks to her efforts and the remaining enemy MBT's had clustered around their air-defence guard for a resolute defence. Not for the first time did 'The Steel Bitch' earn its nickname amongst her cavalry regiment as her apache weathered the piranha-bites against its thick armour.
Missiles however...
Alerts from her bird's electronic countermeasure suite signaled the approach of a locked-on enemy ground-to-air missile. Jax threw her bird into a defensive turn, ratcheted up the collective and fired off flares in an effort to shake her pursuer and the mobile SAM lock-on.
"Relax, Warshark One, we got 'em."
Jax hadn't realised she'd been holding her breath. No matter how many missions she flew, she never quite lost that instinctive bracing for the worst. The next lock-on might be your last. She let it out slowly, gazed sidelong out of her canopy, and flashed a tight grin in the direction of her wingmate and the flaming wreck that he'd left behind in the wake of his attack run.
"Much appreciated, Warshark Two."
