For whatever reason, this artwork was deleted. I have no idea why, but could be due to the recent hacking.
This one was on my mind for a few years but I didn't think that I could pull it off until now - Sonic Advance 3 is one of my favourite Sonic games of all time & I love the concept of G-Merl & how he/it came to be. Sonic Advance 3 is more of a sequel to Sonic Battle than Sonic Advance 2 is, so anyone who'd played both Battle & Advance 3 would get this in concept (when you consider Super Sonic's emotion).
It's a super close up of Ultimate G-Merl's "eye" just before being defeated, Super Sonic's & Eggman's reflection is displayed on the cracking eye. Interesting thing about Sonic according to Sega; Sonic isn't supposed to cry. While strange as that is, it makes some sense as Sonic is the kinda guy who's mostly positive & if he can't cry, then it would just fuel his temper. I tried to apply that whilst also defying it (kinda) in this artwork. Super Sonic clearly has tears flowing, but he looks way more serious here than usual, almost like a villain to an extent (which makes things look more eerie as Eggman hangs in the background). Everything here is done intentionally, & I hope many people can see the same way I see this.
As for trying to draw the front of G-Merl, it was an absolute nightmare (I had messed up in one of the rings on the side whilst in pen since I couldn't tell what was a light outline & what was erased). From the game's perspective, the boss was on it's side, so I had to dig through the internet for a while before I could find an actual official artwork of Ultimate G-Merl & even from there, the quality isn't all up to scratch, but I made it work nonetheless & was a huuuuge help:
forums.sonicretro.org/index.ph…
Anyways, I'll be colouring this in eventually (don't know when though, I'm currently swing back & forth with other art ideas & projects so I won't lose overall interest in them). Hope you guys like it!
